Dániel Bartha on Hungary’s diplomatic presence in Syria

Dániel Bartha, executive director of CEID, commented on Hungary’s increased diplomatic involvement in Syria and criticism its Western allies have formulated about it for AFP.

The upgrading of diplomatic engagement with Damascus is likely “in line with hopes of staying close to business opportunities,”while Hungary was one of the first EU countries to reopen its Baghdad embassy after the Iraq war, and later opened a consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil in line with the interests of Hungarian oil and gas giant MOL, he added.
