Event Details

Dear Sir or Madam,

The Pew Research Center is releasing a major study of pan-European public opinion towards democracy, market economies and the EU on 15th October. The report, published at the 30th anniversary of the democratic transformation, explores public attitudes about the past, present, and future of Europe. In former communist nations, the Center examines views about the shift to democracy and market economy, as well as whether people believe life is better or worse than under communism.

Do average citizens believe membership in the European Union has been beneficial for their countries or not, and do they think they have benefited from the economic integration of Europe? Are publics largely optimistic or pessimistic about a range of issues, including inequality, education, and the functioning of their political system? How is each country’s relationship with the United States and other European nations perceived?

The main findings of the Pulse of Europe report will be presented by:

Ms. Laura Silver, Senior researcher at Pew Research Center

The presentation will be followed by a debate with:

Mr. Ágoston Sámuel Mráz, Director of the Nézőpont Group

Mr. Tamás Meszerics, Professor of the CEU, former member of the European Parliament (2014-2019)

The event will be moderated by: Ms. Edit Inotai, Senior Fellow, CEID

Time: October 21, 17.00-18.30

Venue: Budapest Music Centre, Mátyás utca 8, 1093 Budapest

The Centre for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Democracy (CEID) launched a series of discussions on current European issues titled ‘European Café’ in 2016. We aim to discuss vital challenges of the European integration from a Hungarian perspective. Our purpose is to organize constructive and open debates about our common European future by inviting politicians and experts from and beyond Hungary.
