Expert Roundtable on Convention Arms Control in Europe

On 10 November Director Daniel Bartha and Board Member Prof. István Gyarmati was speaking at a one-day Expert Roundtable on Convention Arms Control and Confidence-and Security-Building Measures in Europe.

The round table was initiated by Amb. Gyarmati, who was leading the Hungarian delegation on the arms control talks in the early ’90s. The event was opened by Mr.Laberto Zannier, Secretary General  of the OSCE and it was attended by more then 150 international academic experts, delegations of OSCE participating States and relevant international organizations. The meeting served to get a better understanding of the current situation with regard to CSBMs and arms control in Europe, including their connection to other regimes in preparation for the Basel OSCE ministerial meeting to be held in December.

During the meeting experts prepared short discussion papers on the role of confidence-and security-building measures in crisis situations, evolution of the European security architecture, as well as new approaches and prospects overview.
