02 Jun Edit Inotai on the new Budget Proposal by the Commission
Edit Inotai, senior fellow of CEID took part in a Zoom panel discussion organized by Visegrad Insight on the European Commission’s new recovery fund announcement.
In the wake of the economic turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of proposals has been set forth as to how to ease the economic and financial situations all over the EU, which also coincides with the discussions on the new MFF budget that starts next year.
Visegrad Insight, along with the European Liberal Forum devoted the latest V/I Breakfast event to the Central European perspectives on the Multiannual Financial Framework and the numerous proposals.
According to Ms Inotai, considers the Commission’s proposal a “brave move” and highlighted the Union’s ability to learn from the lessons of the previous crisis by raising the recovery funding on the international financial markets instead of the common budget itself. There is no room for “scapegoating” now, even from the Eurosceptic side, as there simply can be no member state blamed for the outbreak of the pandemic and for the resulting hardships, as well.
Eulalia Rubio, senior research fellow of the Jaques Delors Institute and Martin Ehl, chief analyst of Hospodárske noviny also contributed to the discussion as the panelists, the whole summary of the event can be read on Visegrad Insight‘s page.
