Dániel Bartha, executive director of CEID commented on the possible implications of the developments having taken place at the European People Party’s congress in Zagreb to Balkan Insight.
“If Fidesz was kicked out, it could indirectly help Tusk’s archrivals in Poland, [..] Moreover, there might also be financial considerations: the EPP receives its funding depending on the size of its parliamentary group. Losing 14 members could mean a sensitive cut. I would think the decision on Fidesz’s fate will be more tactical and less a question of principles.”
