Dániel Bartha discussed past and future of V4 with Géza Jeszenszky

On the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Visegrad Cooperation in 1991, Mr. Géza Jeszenszky, foreign minister in the first democratically elected Hungarian government headed by József Antall, discussed his views on the past and future of V4 with Mr. Dániel Bartha, executive director of CEID at the Polish Institute of Budapest. Mr. Jeszenszky recalled the circumstances of signing the declaration on 15th February, and how the nature of the cooperation has evolved since then. According to the former foreign minister, an important heritage of v4 lies in the idea of Euro-Atlantic solidarity, and in the recognition of the fact that European welfare and security can only be maintained through a balanced cooperation with the United States. As to recent Western criticism of the V4, he expressed deep concern and called for a common effort by the Visegrad countires to change this negative image.

The event was supported by the Embassy of Poland.
