28 Nov Towards the Warsaw Summit – Central Europe’s Interests – Bratislava
TOWARDS THE WARSAW SUMMIT – CENTRAL EUROPE’S INTERESTS
Venue: CEPI/SAC, Klariská 14, 812 83 Bratislava
Date: Thursday, 29 October 2015, 14:00-15:30
Summit in Wales in September 2014 was one of the most important events for NATO since the end of the Cold War. Adoption of the Readiness Action Plan and its implementation was a crucial changeover in strategic thinking and defence planning especially for member states located on the NATO`s eastern flank, including countries of Visegrad. All of them committed themselves to increase the defence budgets and boost capability development, and have already started to implement these plans. However, this development was in some aspects not as smooth and flexible as expected. Therefore, summit in Warsaw, planned for July 2016, should provide member states with the new impetus to the further changes and short-term measures should be replaced by a long-term strategic adaptation. What are the Visegrad priorities for summit agenda that should be taken into account? How implementation of RAP so far strengthened the region and the Alliance against the most immediate threats? What kind of relations between NATO and Russia can serve best the interest of the Alliance and V4 in the new security situation? How should further enlargement process of NATO look like?
