Is the Migration Crisis over?

We are pleased to invite you to the next event of our European Café series.

The Centre for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Democracy (CEID) has launched a series of discussions on current European issues, supported by Erste Stiftung and the National Cooperation Fund (NEA).

This time we invite you to join the discussion on “Storms Past and Storms to Come”.

Europe experienced an unprecedented wave of refugee and migrant flow in 2015. Due to the closure of the Balkan route and the EU-Turkey agreement in March 2016, the number of people trying to find safe haven in the EU has decreased, but this might be a temporary phenomenon, since neither the push, nor the pull factors have ceased to exist. CEID’s next European Cafe focuses on the different approaches to migration in the EU and the dangers of creating further cleavages in the European community.
Shall we accept or even need migration in the future? And if yes, what should be the guidelines of integration? Or shall we try to create a Fortress Europe, and if yes, how? Can the agreement with Turkey prevail under the current political circumstances?

Our guests are:
Prof. György Schöpflin, Member of the European Parliament (EPP/Fidesz)

Amb. Igor Slobodnik, Ambassador-at-Large for Migration during the forthcoming Slovak Presidency of the European Council

The discussion is moderated by Ms. Edit Inotai, Senior Fellow of CEID.

Date: May 4th, 18.00
Venue: Aranytíz (1051 Budapest, Arany János utca 10)

We are looking forward to seeing you.
