Taiwan has emerged as a significant global player and belongs to the strongest economies as a result of the Taiwan Miracle. The economic reforms included massive industrialization, investment in infrastructure with a special focus on the technology sector. Taiwan successfully avoided the middle-income trap and became a high-income country. What can Hungary learn from the island country? Can we adapt and implement some of their best practices?

Our discussion on the transformation of Taiwan’s economy introduced how the East-Asian country has been creating its economic miracle and keeping the competitive edge for a long time. Our panellists Roy Chun Lee, Deputy Executive Director of Taiwan WTO & RTA Center, Wu Jieh-min, Research Fellow of the Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica, and László Urbán, economist, Member of Equilibrium Institute’s Advisory Board discussed Taiwan’s economic strategies and experience on the role of the state in a successful transformation.
